So it’s a week before monkey starts school and I have only just finished buying the uniform checklist. This time a few days ago, I had no school shoes, no stationary, no clothes; the only things I had were the school jumpers ordered before the end of July.
We have been so lucky to be able to get him in to a good school that nursery can do the pick up and drop offs for me.
This means that our daily routine doesn’t change.
Yet, it still feels like it will. It will be different. Monkey doesn’t go to nursery anymore, he goes to school!
I don’t want to be that mum that you never see at the school gates. The mum that others whisper about when I come running in late to school meetings on my phone dealing with something happening at work.
So I am going to attempt to drop him off once a fortnight and pick him up once a fortnight for the first term – that’s my aim!
I wonder if il be able to help with his homework, if he will make lots of new friends.
How much washing will I really have to do every week? Will he ruin his school shoes in the first week?
There are so many unanswered questions as he starts his new journey in a brand new environment.
It’s an emotional time for anyone when a child starts school – especially when I am so emotionally guarded anyway.
One things for sure – he will be just fine, and I can’t wait to watch him grow and learn.
He might even end up teaching me a thing or two as well.
