So according to Big Brother, and numerous other media sources, 2018 is Year of the Woman.
I should be celebrating and embracing 2018. Yet I find myself cringing slightly. Has feminism gone a little too far?
I’ve been watching Celebrity Big Brother this year, and loved watching how an all female line up got on for 4 days before the men came in.
As expected, bringing men in brought a completely different and stronger (in my opinion) dynamic.
I’m a girly girl; I like make up and nice clothes, pretty dresses and heels. Yet I only have a handful of close ‘girl’ friends.
We can be so bitchy sometimes. Men will always bring that banter and light hearted fun us women just can’t.
Working in quite a male orientated environment, the women in our office have to stand their ground. Its a battle sometimes to be heard in meetings.
There is a close group of us that work together in the main office. There’s jokes, banter, inappropriate comments and it all fits together. No one takes things too seriously.
If it were all women, chances are there would be fighting, bitching and back stabbing….and of course tears!
Having 3 boys at home including my cat of course, I’m outnumbered there too.
I’m proud to be a woman, of course I am. There is just so much pressure and focus on gender equality and everyone being treated fairly these days.
Unfortunately it will always be an issue in the workplace; regardless if you are a mother or not. Its just how us women choose to stand up to it and fight our corner to be taken seriously.
Sometimes, we really do know what we are talking about – plus, women’s intuition is actually a thing.
So I am all up for celebrating Year of the Woman, but it wouldn’t be the same if it weren’t for the men in our lives.
What’s your thoughts on the Year of the Woman?
