Our weekend away

So after all the ups and downs over the last few months, hubby and I found some time to skip off to Stratford Upon Avon for the weekend for some us time.

The in laws came up to look after little man for us, and we had 2 whole days away.

First stop was Bicester Village for a bit of a luxury shopping adventure. I think I may have got all responsible in my old age, as I a few years ago could have quite easily spent £300 on a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes. Whereas I found myself in the shop thinking that I could probably buy 2 new outfits for that money.

So it was lovely to experience the luxury feel to the outlet village, but we only bought little man a few bits from Ralph Lauren Kids and some tea towels. I am clearly so rock and roll.

We did have a lovely lunch and then an afternoon coffee with the biggest freshly made cookie I have ever seen.

After exhausting the shopping village, we drove up to Ettington Park Hotel where we were booked in to a deluxe room with dinner, bed and breakfast.

The staff from start to finish were fantastic and made us feel incredibly well looked after.

We had an hour in the sauna and spa area before getting ready for dinner, and heading to the lounge area.

The staff took our food orders in the lounge and we enjoyed our drinks and some canapés while we waited to be called in to the dining room.

We had a 3 course meal and a bottle of wine and it was lovely.

The next day, we took a short drive in to Stratford upon Avon and did some historic sight seeing – another reason why I think I am getting older!

We had a great few hours before deciding to take a trip to The Bull Ring, Birmingham on the way home.

Obviously less expensive than Bicester Village, I treated myself to a few new items of clothing. This time without feeling guilty for blowing the whole budget on a pair of shoes like I could have done the day before.

We arrived home at about 4pm, exhausted from a full on few days but it was lovely to spend some time as husband and wife, and not mummy and daddy.

It was the first time since last May that we had spent any time just the 2 of us, and it was much needed.

Onwards and upwards and the plans for the next husband and wife trip….Barcelona!!

Just need to borrow hubby’s credit card first though.

When was your last trip away without the children?
