Has Christmas got earlier this year?

On Sunday 6th November I heard my first Christmas song…the 6th November.

Does it get earlier every year, or am I more aware of it now I have a 2 year old? Now I am possibly one of the least Christmas-ey people you could meet. The fact that I work in the City Centre now and work in retail, there isn’t really too much I can do to avoid it.

I am even organising events with Santa and his elves and decorating windows with fake snow.

But, having little man, there has to be a part of me that enjoys Christmas more…and I do. Just not in November.

I am never going to be one of these people that finish their Christmas shopping by the 1st December. I will usually start thinking about it, write a list and then go and get everything early to middle December in 1 or 2 trips.

Having a toddler now who is starting to understand things will make Christmas magical and exciting. It is so important to embrace the festive season for him.

To start new traditions like leaving a snack and drink out for Santa and the reindeer. I am even entering in to a new world of Elf on the shelf this year, in hope that it may help with his toddler tantrums if the Elf is watching and reporting back to Santa.

All these things are new to me, and I never thought I would be one to enter in to the spirit of Christmas.

So I suppose secretly, I am looking forward to seeing his little face every day when he finds the elf around the house during December. I am excited to see his face when he sees all the presents downstairs on Christmas Day even though he may just still want to jump in the boxes and play hide and seek.

But I do think that November the 6th is just a little too early to enter in the spirit of Christmas.

Just give me a few more weeks…please.

  1. As a blogger, I have to start thinking about Christmas early. But now it seems everyone as done most of their Christmas shopping by September!! Most of my friends have bought all their stuff and even done all the wrapping too! #bestandworst

  2. I think it really is getting earlier! I’m a big believer in Christmas decorations and such shouldn’t begin until after Thanksgiving, but I guess in part that’s because Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. If we are already ‘celebrating’ Christmas I can’t fully enjoy Thanksgiving. Starting this early is just a little too much of a good thing for me =) #bestandworst

  3. Usually when someone tells me that have finished their Christmas shopping in November I think f*** off. But this year I am one of those people. But…… I had been saving all year had so had the funds ready and I did it all online so I didn’t even have to leave the house. I draw the line at Christmas songs being played and Christmas trees going up before December though. There’s just no need.

  4. Christmas is definitely getting earlier, but I admit that I am one of those people who tries to get all their shopping brought and wrapped by the end of November. I only do this because my Birthday is in December which is pretty rubbish, so I don’t want to be worrying about Christmas presents for other people. Baa humbug and all that 😉 #bestandworst x

  5. I always feel that I cannot even think about Christmas until after the last family birthday – which is Halloween. So I was full on writing lists etc the first week of November….but no decorations or singing songs or any of THAT stuff – that has to wait till 01 December at very least!

  6. It really does seem to be getting earlier. In fairness, I haven’t heard a Christmas song yet but it all seems to have kicked off pre-Halloween this year! You know what they say though… if ya can’t beat ’em, join ’em! #coolmumclub
