The Toddler Diaries – Chapter 1

The toddler tantrums are officially underway and they are pretty sensational.

My weekends are spent being hit in the head by flying cars, being head butted in the nose and wiping snot and dried cheese spread off of different parts of a toddlers body.

The ability of a child to have a major breakdown over the fact that I drove out of nursery in a different direction is also quite special.

I tend to find the tantrums pretty hilarious. They genuinely cannot help their emotions and inability to think rationally at this young age.

Not a day goes by where I don’t look at him and think my heart could burst with love and pride.

This month now that summer is over, things are changing.

He has moved up to the next swimming class so he is noticeably smaller than the other children. He is also a lot more naughty because he is learning new things and getting frustrated. That said, this morning he was such a good boy and I think things are finally beginning to settle down.

We have also signed him up for football lessons on a Sunday. I haven’t had the delight in taking him to football yet but I have been told that it is exhausting. Again, he doesn’t do what he is told and runs around like a lunatic – maybe tomorrow he will be better. Then again, maybe not?

The third change is that he is in the process of moving up to the toddler room at nursery. He has been in the nursery from 6 months old and has now been in 2 rooms, the move will make it his third.

He loves nursery and so far has not had a problem with spending a few days a week in the new room. A few of his friends moved up a few months ago, and a few of his current friends are also moving up with him, so I know they can all cause chaos together.

I am hoping that things will all settle down over the next few weeks with the changes in his routine and new lessons.

But I am still expecting the toddler tantrums to continue for the foreseeable future. I may consider purchasing a helmet to protect my head from future flying toys and head butts.

What has been your best toddler tantrum you have had to deal with?

  1. Argh I’m not looking forward to the toddler tantrums at all. Moving up a room at nursery is quite a big deal, my daughter found it hard moving up from the baby room to the toddler room. I’m hoping the toddler tantrums hold off for as long as possible. Fingers crossed you have an incident free weekend. Thanks so much for linking up at #fortheloveofBLOG. Claire x
