I had an opportunity over Christmas to spend time thinking about all those things that we could be doing if we didn’t have a little one running around.
We could have a lie in, go in town and have a leisurely brunch; maybe go to the cinema on an afternoon or any evening you wished in fact.
The list of answers to ‘What shall we do today?’ was endless.
Having some time just hubby, little man and I, it was interesting to see how our plans and mindsets have changed.
So here is us answering a set of questions as a childless couple and as parents.
When do you want to try that new restaurant that has opened in town?
Childless – Whenever? Tomorrow night if you like?
Parents – Well we could try and make it for lunch, but then we need to be back for little mans nap so that might not be ideal either….Ummm, never then.
What do you fancy doing this weekend?
Childless – I might do a couple of classes at the gym and use the sauna, then maybe we can pop in town for some lunch?
Parents – Well we have swimming lessons at 10am, the food shop needs doing, the hoover needs putting round the house, as well as 3 piles of washing…what was the question again?
Did you see that new film recently?
Childless – Yes. It was good, although not as good as the first one. Let’s watch another on Saturday night.
Parents – What new film? I only fall asleep on the sofa half an hour in to it.
When was the last time you got drunk and had a hangover?
Childless – Last Friday night. Was such a great night out. Should definitely do it again next week.
Parents – What is getting drunk?
Are you ready to go?
Childless – Yup
Parents – You grab little man, I’ll get the bags. Have you got his food bag? Where is his other shoe? Put your coat on!!
Do you want a biscuit?
Childless – Yes please
Parents – Hang on, let me come out to the kitchen so I can quickly eat it behind the cupboard door to avoid toddler eyes and tantrums.
Can anyone else relate to these? What else would you add?
