Me, myself & my work space

Having been blogging and writing for about 5 months now (wow time has really flown), it is time to evaluate my work space.

I love my work space at home. However it can be rather distracting. I tend to grab my laptop, put the kettle on, and make myself comfy on the sofa during weeknights with a cuppa and a biscuit.

At weekends, my work space is my dining room table, usually with my cat sat on the table staring at me.

In our new house, which technically isn’t new anymore as we have been living there for 18 months, we had a ‘study.’ For those of you with children, you will know that this room that was supposed to be a study doesn’t stay this way. It is used for the ever growing pile of toys that my little boy gets bought, so is now branded as our ‘play room.’

Who doesn’t love a playroom? It is my saviour. It is where all the toys can go at the end of the day and I can close the door on it all. I don’t have to look at it whilst I am having my dinner and whilst I am enjoying catching up on the soaps before bed.

More importantly, it keeps the house clean and tidy. This makes it easier for me to sit and work without stressing about stepping over some lego pieces on the floor.

So my work space you might say has been severely compromised…but I wouldn’t change it for the world.

So what would I want my ideal work space to look like? Well here is my wishlist…

  1. Views of the seaside or the rolling hills
  2. A fish tank that I can watch lots of pretty fish swimming around
  3. To sit in a comfy chair
  4. A nice aroma of a John Lewis fragrance
  5. Cups of tea, or hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows and snacks

That is why I do enjoy going out to a local coffee shop, being able to sit and watch the world go by. Getting out of the house does bring a breath of fresh air.

WeWork offers beautiful meeting spaces and work stations which you can rent like office space. It also gives you the opportunity to meet thousands of potential clients that you can connect with at exclusive events.

At the moment their work spaces are located mainly in America but they also have a few office locations in London. I would definitely look at doing something similar in a location near me, should I be lucky enough to officially start working freelance and being paid to do so.

It is so important to get out of the house from time to time. To bring some inspiration and a fresh outlook from a different location, but still feel comfortable and well looked after. That is exactly what WeWork offers.

So what would your ideal work space look like?

  1. Oh I love the idea of your workspace.Especially the views! In our new house we have a spare room which is a guest room but we really should be using it as a playroom or office. The problem is if we changed it we would have nowhere for our many guests when they come to stay. So at the moment I have my computer on the dining room table which like you say can be very distracting! #twinklytuesday

  2. I’m totally like you! We don’t have enough room in our home for a proper workspace at the moment but as someone who runs a home business and is starting to take my blogging more seriously I am craving one! The idea of an offsite space sounds like such a good idea. I bet I would be so much more effective without any distractions. Kat x #twinklytuesday

  3. Yup, I’m the same as you, tapping away on my laptop in the evenings, in front of the tv with a cuppa and a biscuit! Or up at the kitchen counter while my toddler eats his many meals per day. We have a lovely sun room that I’d love to turn into a nice office space and it’s currently unused, so I just need to get around to making it happen. #bestandworst

  4. A good workspace is so important for productivity and to help you feel more relaxed about work. A site I recently discovered that you might like is coffitivity.com. It recreates the ambient sounds of a cafe to boost your creativity and help you work better! Its sounds silly but I love it. Its like being in a cafe at home!
